As we are all aware the COVID-19 virus is affecting our community. For several hours today our team met with agencies and medical and health officials to get a better understanding of future timing of this event. Based on these meetings, we have made the painful decision to cancel the IAWRP Symposium scheduled for South Bend in June. Most agencies have imposed travel bans that will likely extend into June at this time. You, our members, your departments and families are our utmost concern, and for that reason we came to this decision.
We have been in touch with the Double Tree Hotel explaining the situation and our concerns; they have been very gracious in allowing our attendees to cancel their rooms with no penalty. Please reach out to them directly at 574-234-2000 or Hilton.com to cancel your hotel. Additionally, we will be offering a complete refund to you and/or your agency for all registration fees. Please contact Sharon at Sharon.firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements for your refund.
We considered postponing the symposium until later this year. But, given the dry winter, potential for a strong fire season, not to mention the need to keep teams ready to deploy during hurricane season, we felt it best to simply cancel and start working on next year’s event. The dates for the 2021 South Bend Symposium will be June 6-11,2021. We should registration open for June '21 by the end of this June. Please watch for announcements.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Sharon or me (email@example.com). Again, we apologize for this decision. We feel it is in the best interest of our members, their teams and communities to mitigate any risk associated with COVID-19.
